"Cataract Surgeries Programme" Government Funding Cataract Treatment

Average Waiting Time for Ophthalmology Services at Public Hospitals: Approximately 100 Weeks!

According to data from the Hospital Authority, the average waiting time for cataract surgery is about one year or more. To promote collaboration between public and private healthcare services, the Hong Kong government has launched the “Cataract Surgeries Programme” to reduce waiting times for citizens. Eligible patients can choose private ophthalmologists for their cataract surgery.
Our specialists at EuroEyes Hong Kong are designated doctors under the Hospital Authority’s “Cataract Surgeries Programme.” (CSP) We welcome eligible individuals to receive cataract treatment at our center.

How Much Do Patients Need to Pay to Private Doctors?

The Hospital Authority provides a fixed subsidy of HKD 8,000, and patients will need to pay no more than an additional HKD 8,000 to complete their cataract surgery.

Can Insurance Claims Be Made?

If patients have purchased medical insurance, they can apply for reimbursement according to their policy terms. For details, please consult the relevant insurance agent.
