Presbyopia

"The day after my surgery was the most beautiful day of my life."

~ Katja Harmuth, 47, self-employed make-up artist (Presbyopia)

Katja Harmuth has been short-sighted since childhood. In second grade she already had problems recognising the letters on the blackboard. Instead of wearing glasses, Katja preferred to sit in the front row. “I was very vain when I was a young child and did not want to have to wear glasses under any circumstances.”

At the age of 19, however, her myopia was so strong, she couldn’t ignore it anymore. Katja found herself forced to compromise and chose contact lenses to correct her short sight. This solution worked well – until she celebrated her 40th birthday. Due to her age, she had developed presbyopia, meaning that small print became increasingly hard to read and she became dependent on reading glasses.

When presbyopia affects your daily work

Particularly in her profession as a make-up artist, Katja needs perfect sight for detailed work, which requires a lot of precision. She had already heard a lot about EuroEyes from some of her friends and finally decided to come in for a consultation at the clinic in Düsseldorf, Germany. “Of course I was skeptical, of course I was afraid. But thanks to the excellent consulting in Düsseldorf, I had a good feeling and felt ready for the operation.”

“The day after my surgery was the most beautiful day of my life”

It took another two years for Katja Harmuth to go ahead with her operation at EuroEyes. And she didn’t regret it at all. “The day after my surgery was the most beautiful day of my life. Although it may sound dramatic, the feeling was simply indescribable. Over time, you get used to the fact that you can’t see sharp contours without glasses. But now, everything is possible without glasses or contact lenses. It’s amazing!”

The implantation of Multifocal Intraocular Lenses enables clear vision in various distances, is not visible and can permanently stay in the eye. “Many of my customers or friends do not even know that a multifocal lens can be used to correct presbyopia." The surgery went without any complications or pain afterwards. She could see sharply again without glasses or contact lenses within a few hours after the surgery. “At this point, I would like to thank all EuroEyes employees once again. The surgery has changed my life, I could not be happier. ”
