According to data from the Hospital Authority, the average waiting time for cataract surgery is about one year or more. To promote collaboration between public and private healthcare services, the Hong Kong government has launched the “Cataract Surgeries Programme” to reduce waiting times for citizens. Eligible patients can choose private ophthalmologists for their cataract surgery.
The Hospital Authority provides a fixed subsidy of HKD 8,000, and patients will need to pay no more than an additional HKD 8,000 to complete their cataract surgery.
If patients have purchased medical insurance, they can apply for reimbursement according to their policy terms. For details, please consult the relevant insurance agent.
Patients can choose private ophthalmologists under the “Cataract Surgeries Programme” (CSP) to receive the following services:
One pre-operative assessment
Cataract surgery, including an artificial lens (monofocal intraocular lens)
Two post-operative check-ups related to cataract surgery treatment
*If patients request premium multifocal intraocular lenses, they will only need to pay the additional charges.
Patients who have received an invitation letter from the Hospital Authority are welcome to contact us for more information and to schedule an appointment.
