Symptoms and treatment of Presbyopia

Presbyopia is a very common, age-related eye condition that affects the flexibility of the natural lens. It generally starts affecting eyesight at around the age of 40 and can gradually worsen over time.

While there is no cure for presbyopia, laser and lens surgery can help to restore the natural function of the eye.

What does Presbyopia do to the eye?

The lens in our eyes can naturally change the refractive power of light by contracting and expanding, in a process called accommodation. This elasticity of the lens is what allows us to see things clearly at different distances.

However, as we age, the natural eye lens loses elasticity in various places. This means that focusing becomes difficult at various distances.

From the age of around 40, you may find that it’s increasingly difficult to see objects at a close distance, such as reading a book or looking at your phone. You may find that you instinctively move these objects further away so you can focus, but this isn’t a long-term solution.

Understanding Presbyopia: Can Presbyopia be cured? Treatment methods for Presbyopia

Presbyond® Laser Blended Vision

The Presbyond® Laser Blended Vision method is a modern and safe laser eye treatment for presbyopia. It involves separately optimising each eye for near and far-sighted vision.

While this may seem strange at first, the brain soon adapts and blends the two images so you can see both near and far without effort, as well as providing depth of focus and visual acuity.

Multifocal and Trifocal Lens Surgery

Trifocal intraocular lens surgery is another treatment option for presbyopia. It involves implanting an artificial lens into the eye to replace the cloudy natural lens. Most patients who undergo trifocal intraocular lens replacement experience a significant reduction in their reliance on glasses in daily life; however, some patients may still need reading glasses in dim lighting conditions.

Personalized treatment plan

At our clinic, each patient receives a tailored treatment plan designed specifically for their unique eye condition.

Patients receive a detailed explanation of their condition and recommended treatment options. Follow-up appointments are scheduled to monitor recovery and treatment effectiveness.

Presbyopia FAQ

Does everyone develop presbyopia? Is presbyopia reversible?

Everyone develops presbyopia, which typically begins between the ages of 40 and 45. As we age, the natural lens of the eye gradually degenerates, naturally weakening the ability to focus on near objects. Presbyopia is a natural physiological degeneration phenomenon, and once it occurs, it is irreversible.

  • The simplest solution for presbyopia: Wear suitable reading glasses or contact lenses.
  • For those who wish to improve their vision while maintaining a professional image and convenience in daily life: Consider various presbyopia correction surgeries.

The Presbyond® Laser Blended Vision method is a laser eye treatment for presbyopia, and is an option for individuals aged 38 and older. Presbyond LBV can correct myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism while effectively delaying the effects of presbyopia.
